Route names are not simple quality tiers. Access paths, traffic handling, resource costs and use cases vary, so choosing the right type is often more effective than repeatedly switching cities.

A relay route first sends the connection to an intermediate node suited to the current access conditions, then forwards it to the target region. Relay routes maintain the access point, intermediate transport and exit, so their cost and scheduling complexity generally fall between dedicated and direct routes. They suit everyday browsing, common international websites, streaming and AI tools, and can serve as a backup to dedicated routes. A direct route connects the current network straight to an overseas exit without an additional dedicated relay layer. Its structure is simpler and can cover a wider range of countries and cities, making it suitable for infrequent access, scattered destinations or situations requiring an exit in a specific region. When the local path to the target region is already suitable, direct routes can also perform well.

Direct routes are more sensitive to local network operators, international routing and changes in the destination network, so performance may vary by time and access environment. Their resource structure is relatively straightforward and they are generally better for extending regional coverage. If pages load inconsistently, video buffers or connections repeatedly drop, first try a relay in the same region, then consider a nearby dedicated route.

A city’s proximity to the target service does not guarantee that it suits the current network. A safer approach is to identify the use case and destination first, then compare dedicated, relay and direct routes within the same region.

Start nearby and keep a backup

For reading webpages, researching and handling email, prioritize a relatively nearby region that matches your destination. For commonly used Asia-Pacific services, start with Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul or Hong Kong; for sites in Europe or North America, switch to the corresponding region. Avoid changing exits every time you open a page. Keeping the region stable during a session helps websites maintain a consistent session assessment.

If the current route opens pages normally, there is no need to keep switching just because its label is different. If images stall or connections retry, first switch from direct to relay within the same region; if that still does not work, try a nearby city or dedicated route.

Streaming

The content-library region matters more than the city name

Streaming services typically determine visible content using the exit region, account details, content rights and device environment. First identify the content library you want to access, then choose a route marked as supported in that region. Avoid switching countries during playback, as the login session, subtitle selection and playback position may need to reload.

If the service opens but the library is different from expected, first check whether the account region matches the node country instead of cycling through multiple exits.
